ABOUT THE DOCUMENTARY
Invisible Injuries is a feature-length Australian documentary that explores the enduring impact of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and the often unseen realities faced by veterans as they transition from military service back into civilian life.
Following Australian veteran Andy Fermo, the documentary weaves together the voices of veterans, families, psychologists and senior military leaders from Australia and overseas to reveal the human stories behind the statistics. Through honest conversations and intimate moments, the film explores trauma, resilience, identity and hope, while highlighting the lasting impact that invisible injuries can have on individuals, families and communities.
Invisible Injuries is ultimately a story about understanding. It invites audiences to look beyond the uniform and discover the strength, courage and humanity of those navigating life after service.
BEHIND THE LENS
Redefining the Perception of PTSD
Every documentary begins with a question.
For Invisible Injuries, that question was simple: What happens after the uniform comes off?
Over more than two and a half years, our team travelled across Australia and the Netherlands, meeting extraordinary veterans, families, psychologists and military leaders who generously entrusted us with their stories. What emerged was far more than a documentary about military service, it became a deeply human story about trauma, resilience, identity and hope.
As filmmakers, we carried a responsibility to tell these stories with honesty, dignity and compassion. We wanted audiences to move beyond statistics and headlines, and instead connect with the people behind them. Every interview, every location and every conversation was approached with the understanding that these experiences were not ours to own, but ours to respectfully share.
Our hope is that Invisible Injuries encourages greater understanding, sparks meaningful conversations, and reminds us all that the most significant battles are often the ones we cannot see.
Thank you for joining us on this journey.
